AFCAT Air Force Coaching Centre IN VIJAYAWADA

 

AFCAT

AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test. It is an exam for the entry of officers in Air Force conducted by Indian Air Force for the three branches as:
  • Flying branch
  • Technical branch and
  • Ground Duty branch.
AFCAT was introduced in the year 2011, before this, the candidate used to apply for every individual notification this caused a lot of problems for the candidates.  To avoid these things, AFCAT was introduced by our Indian Air Force. AFCAT is conducted twice a year (in the month of February and August). The advertisement for the same is published in the months of December and June respectively. Women candidates may also apply for this examination. AFCAT applications now have to be made online only. The earlier scheme allowing candidates to apply offline (by post) has been discontinued. Candidates are to apply online through website www.careerairforce.nic.in using a valid and current email address only.

Selection Procedure for AFCAT

Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of (AFCAT) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs). The testing would consist of three stages as given below.

(a) Stage-I Test: It is consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing. 
All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.

(b) Stage-II Test: It is consisting of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Four Days).

(c) For Flying Branch: Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) would be administered to eligible candidates.
Medical Examination will be conducted on the recommendations at AFSB. Candidates recommended by the AFSBs and declared medically fit will be detailed for training in the order of all India Merit list depending on the number of vacancies available in various branches/ sub branches. Grant of PC / SSC in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be based on number of vacancies, performance in the selection process and the choice given by the candidate / Airmen. 
As per the commission no any compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the testing at AFSB, while 10% of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing 'C' certificate holders.

Eligibility Criteria for AFCAT

  • Flying Branch
(a) Age: 19 to 23 years 
(Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 25 years.
(b) Educational Qualifications: Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised University who have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level OR BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.
  • Technical Branch
(a) Age: 18 to 28 years 
(b) Educational Qualifications:
(i) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}. Candidates applying for AE (L) branch will be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies. (ii) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}. Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised 
University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies. Essential Subjects for Technical Branch:
(a) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)}. All candidates applying for AE(L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam:-
(L1) Physics / Engineering Physics (L2) Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics (L3) Engineering 
Graphics / Engineering Drawing (L4) Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology (L5) Control 
Engineering (L6) Microprocessors (L7) Digital Electronics / Basic Electronics (L8) Computer Networks  (L9) Information Technology (L10) Network Theory Design (L11) Telecommunication Systems (L12) Electronic Circuit Design (L13) Radar Theory (L14) Switching Theory (L15) Instrumentation (L16) Microwave Engineering (L17) Antenna and Wave Propagation (L18) Electronic Devices.

(b) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}. All candidates applying for AE(M) branch  should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam:-
(M1) Physics / Engineering Physics (M2) Engineering Maths / Mathematics (M3) Engineering Drawing / Graphics (M4) Automotive Engineering / Plant Engineering / Industrial Engineering 
(M5) Engineering Mechanics / Strength of Material (M6) Aerodynamics (M7) Thermodynamics and 
Applications / Heat Power Engineering (M8) Heat and Mass Transfer (M9) Theory of Machines 
(Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery) (M10) Fluid Mechanics/ Turbo Machines (M11) Flight Mechanics (M12) Machine Drawing / Machine Design (M13) Mechatronics (M14) Material Science Metallurgy (M15) Vibrations (M16) Workshop Technology / Manufacturing Technology / Production Engineering (M17) Hydraulics and Pneumatics (M18) Aircraft Structures.
  • Ground Duty Branches
(a) Age:
For Graduates 20 to 23 Years
For Post Graduates / LLB ( Five years 
Integrated course).
20 to 25 Years
For LLB (Three years course after Graduation). 20 to 26 Years
For M Ed / Ph D / CA / ICWA 20 to 27 Years
(b) Educational Qualifications:

Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Post Graduate Degree / equivalent Diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
Accounts Graduate Degree in Commerce (B Com)(Minimum three year degree course) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or Post Graduate Degree in Commerce (M.Com) / CA / ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
Education Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.

Exam Pattern for AFCAT

The AFCAT is an objective exam for the session of two hours. It is an objective type exam contains the following syllabus, such as:
a) Verbal Ability in English– Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms (meanings of English words), Antonyms (opposite meanings of English words) and Vocabulary evaluation. 
b) Numerical Ability – Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.
c) Reasoning and Military Aptitude– Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability. 
In the exam, the total number of questions is 100 and marks for each question is 3 where the negative marking for each wrong answer is 1.

Negative mark for each wrong answer -1
Mark for each correct answer 3 marks
The question paper for AFCAT is quiet easy.  The engineering students who have prepared for their placement during their final semesters or the people who have prepared to write the bank exam or IBPS may find this quite easy.
Type of Commission
Permanent Commission: Candidates joining as Permanent Commission (PC) officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation.
Short Service Commission:
(a)The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is Fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable).
(b) The initial tenure for Short Service Commission be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, service for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, service requirements and availability of vacancies.
